Christian dating sponsored by who?

On the way to work today I caught the daily Kim Komando update.  It was about the Christian dating site BigChurch.  All well and good, until she mentioned who owns it.  And who would that be?  Penthouse.  That's right - Penthouse.  Take a look (all links are safe)

You are redirected to Penthouse Media, which is "Globally recognized as the premier adult entertainment and lifestyle brand, Penthouse Media Group Inc. is the largest adult entertainment company in the world."

Signing up for BigChurch and paying their fees would directly finance Penthouse and their pornography.  I don't know about you, but that's not what I would want my Christian website doing.

This Week's Episode of "Blogging the Quran"

Robert Spencer's latest is up at Hotair.

This week Sura 19 talks about the birth of Christ.  Needless to say there are some differences from the Gospel accounts, including Jesus talking in the cradle.  Of course, nowhere is he acknowledged as the Son of God.  Also in the Quranic version Mary is a single mother, and the birth is under a palm tree, not in a manger.  You'll have to read the rest.

Blogging the Quran

Each week, Robert Spencer writes a post about the Quran at Hotair.  He has been systematically covering the Quran, starting with the first Sura, and going until he has covered the whole thing.  If you have any interest in what the Quran actually says, but don't have the patience to wade through the whole thing, then this is a good place to start.

Here's this week's installment.

The spread of Christianity

During the 1800's, missionaries from the western European countries spread all over the world, taking the gospel to people groups that had never heard the good news.  This was brought up during a talk at my church's mission conference last weekend, by a Bishop from Africa with whom my church has worked for many years.  His point was that although those missionaries brought the Word that saved them, they also tried to encapsulate it in the cultural trappings of the western European - where the African life was full of joy and song, where drums and dancing were a way of life, the missionary churches were somber and reverent, and holiness was linked to quiet contemplation.  Of course the great thing is that even through the cultural misunderstanding God could and did a mighty work on the continent.

Also, it is interesting to compare that with the beliefs of the evolutionists of the period....

The more things change...

I was having a discussion over lunch with a friend when we got on to the subject of how the early church worshiped.  Interestingly enough, there are some letters and other documentation existing from the first and second centuries that fill us in on how the early church went about 'having church'.
